It took some time to get my hands on a Pentel PSD5 Pencil and here it is. This one was used and was missing a cap over the eraser and it does not work without the cap. I contact Ginger Goode who is the Consumer Quality Assurance Manager at Pentel of America and she found me the part. What a great pencil and a big thanks to Ginger. The pencil is listed in my 1985 Pentel Catalog so the pencil has been around at least that long.
Here we have both of my favorite vanishing point pencils. Top one is the Pilot H-2005 and on the bottom is the Pentel PSD5. I don't know who was first but there have been plenty of variations of this Pilot and there has only been one Pentel. Both are great pencils and highly collectible. Add them both to your collection.
good score. i should have kept mine....
ReplyDeleteWould that '85 catalog list Pentel Graphlet 0.4 mm model? Graphlet started 1985 and got Long Life Design award 2016.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question no. I have the 1984 catalog and it only has the PG500s and the PG300s. No 0.4mm points listed at all and no Pentel Graphlets. Shame they are good pencils.
ReplyDeleteGood to know that Pentel of America has such devoted customer service. There are a few Pentel mechanical pencils I'd like to acquire and the PSD5 is one of them. Not quite as stunning in appearance as some PILOT MP's, though. The H-200x and H-300x series are tops.
ReplyDeleteFYI, Ginger Goode is sadly no longer with Pentel of America. And they no longer have any parts for the PSD5. While the clip installed on the PSD5 is almost ubiquitous for many other Pentel mechanical pencils (like the P200 line), the rear cap is different. The only way to replace it now is to experiment with old vintage mechanical pencils, trying out caps from other models/brands. I did find one that sort-of works, from a PILOT multi-pen (it's just a tad long). Thankfully you can periodically pick up junker mechanical pencils that have worn bodies but intact rear caps, so a suitable replacement shouldn't be too expensive.
ReplyDeleteAn off-topic question since you wrote "I have the 1984 catalog": May I ask you to look which variant of the Accugraph is displayed in this catalog? Between 1980 and 1990 the hardness grade indicator was added, and I am looking for the exact year. Thank you!
