More Lindy Pens
The third most popular post here in the supply room has been Lindy Pens. Lindy stick non refillable 460m pens have been one of my favorite pens of all time. I remember going to the local store in the 60s and early 70s and seeing the Lindy display with at least 12 different colors. The one color that I am still looking for is orange. In the picture you will see a rare Lindy display from the late 40s to early 50s. The display that I remember is in the top right of the picture. This old cardboard display shows the four basic colors that Lindy had at the time. It was some years later when they added the other colors. This is the first Lindy cardboard counter top display that I have ever seen. Non working Lindy pens are currently going for about $10.00 a piece on EBay so you can see that this display was not cheap. Well worth the cost if you are the Lindy pens biggest fan. Add them all to your collection.

I LOVE Lindy pens. I wish they were still being sold in store.
ReplyDeleteI agree, one of the best pens in my collection.
ReplyDeleteI have been looking all over for these. I guess in vain. When I was a young piano student, my teacher would come over every week and mark my music with a different color Lindy pen. She would often forget the pen and leave it at my house. They were great.
ReplyDeleteLook at some of my other posts on Lindy pens. I have around 250 Lindy pens. If you would like one just email me at moose@hot.rr.com.
ReplyDeleteHi George. Looking for a small Lindy pen with a detachable lindy clip. Lost mine and can't find in eBay. Center ring was metal and wide. Don't mind paying if price is right.

email me at moose@hot.rr.com. I have Lindy pens for sale.
DeleteHi George,
ReplyDeleteI've had a blue Lindy stick pen (midget, very cool pen!) for at least 40 years and I thought I'd try selling it on ebay (or maybe keep it for my cool self, ha)
.
It still writes (intermittently) but I'd like to get it into good writing condition first. I'm thinking I'll try retrofitting a modern cartridge.
The current cartridge is labeled "Sanford No. 53401 0.7 94.1" and is 78mm long. The butt end seems a little ragged so who knows, I may have tried a retrofit sometime in the dim past. The 0.7 is probably the width of the ball itself. Not sure what the 94.1 means.
Was Sanford a supplier to Lindy? Have you tried retrofitting any of your Lindys? Thanks for any input.
Refills are easy to do. I have found that for any of the three size Lindy pens the best refill is a Pilot BP-S pens. They are also called the Better Ballpoint pen. I get my pens on ebay. I currently do not have any blue. Just take the plug out of the top of your Lindy and push the point, push the old refill through and with pliers just pull it out. Take the new refill, cut to size and place some scotch tape around the barrel about a half inch from point. Push in till the point gets tight and will not move. You may need more or less tape. Just email me at moose@hot.rr.com if you need more help. Lindys were great pens.
ReplyDeleteI may have an orange Lindy around somewhere but probably not able to write! I started writing with Lindy pens around 1970 or even earlier, still glad I have all those papers and some of the pens (hopefully). Loved the red and purple ones. I remember when the Blackfeet Indian company had the Lindy pens, nice but maybe not quite the same. I see Amazon has a Lindy pen which is also a touchscreen stylus, not sure if it is the same company. Long live Lindy!!
ReplyDeletemy name is Lindy. I loved these pens when I was younger!

ReplyDeleteGlad to meet you Lindy. If you search for Lindys in the top left of the home page you will see plenty of Lindy posts. I also sell Lindy pens. Must put new refills in but the pen is still a Lindy.
ReplyDeleteI have a gold pen & pencil set: Auditors Point. The pen has a removable ink cartridge, also gold. Were they made by Lindy? Is there a compatible refill cartridge?
DeleteI have little notes that my grandma wrote to me back in the 60's where she used a turquoise Lindy pen so that is my very favorite! I wish I could find a refill ink in that color. I think I still have that one somewhere ☺️ I LOVE Lindy pens!!!
ReplyDeleteI will be selling more working Lindy's in the near future.
ReplyDeleteBob, send me a picture of the refills. moose@hot.rr.com
ReplyDeleteMy dad worked for National Geographic from 1960 until the early '90s. They stocked the Lindy Utility and Auditor's Fine pens that I remember from the early '70s and used them in grade school until around 1980. They were great pens. I may have a couple lying around in drawers.
ReplyDeleteA while back I rediscovered in a box of my stuff a working purple 460M that I used to love. I now am using everyday for jotting notes. I am not a collector. I figured I would use it till it runs out and then toss it. Would you like it when it runs out of ink?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the informative article!
Janis
How do you buy one or more of these pens?
ReplyDeleteI have a Lindy 23K Executive Gold Pen & Pencil set from the 50/60's with Gold retro case thats NIB. I can't find any on Ebay?? Does anybody know what they might be worth?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Dave
